When the salesman tried to sell us the paint and interior protection ("You drop it off for a couple of days, we apply the top-secret formula inside and out, and that car will look brand new in 30 years!", I simply asked, "So Toyota is selling cars that are incomplete. I mean, the factory COULD sell the cars with this amaze-o-seal already applied. But what you're telling me is they don't. They sell a car WORSE than it can be. Who are you, Alfa Romeo?"
He had no response other than to move on to roadside assistance.

Cilaget? It seems like the same idea, if it isn't. They tried to sell it to me for $500.

That is quite the rip-off. Unless it makes your car exactly like it was when it left the factory, (Not Happening ever) Then it's not worth 2 grand.

It is basically a warranty/insurance on paint and interior plus a detail job with some polymer based sealant. The price quoted for you is highly marked up.
Most of those include a plan that would fix or correct any exterior or interior blemishes such as stains, bird poo, dye transfer etc. for a certain period

Every dealership had their own. There are reps that go around and try to sell the stuff to different ones. Usually whoever they pick gives them the biggest cut.
The brand changed 3 times while I was working at the VW dealership.

Hmm ... when we bought our 2008 Sienna it came with ScotchGuard at no additional cost (I think it came from the factory that way). Works like a charm too - I can't tell you how much crap a family of 6 spills inside a van.
